ShineFest 2012
When: Friday, May 25-Saturday, May 26, 2012
Where: Fontana Dam, NC
Country music artist Matt Stillwell will be hosting his annual concert on May 25-26. The Comfort Crew will be there to distribute information and answer questions, and will also be the recipient of a donation from Matt’s foundation after the concert.

2012 USO Caregivers Conference
When: Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 9:00AM-2:30PM
Where: Sam Houston Club, Fort Sam Houston, TX
The Comfort Crew for Military Kids is honored to have resources being highlighted in the third annual caregiver’s conference, hosted by the USO Warrior and Family Care, in partnership with the Fort Sam Houston Soldier Family Assistance Center (SFAC). One of the topics  being discussed at the conference is our Taking Care of You! Support for Kids of Injured Heroes Kit, available through USO centers to children of service men and woman who have injuries (visible or invisible).

Camp Hero for Military Kids
When: Monday, August 6 – Friday August 10, 2012 & Monday, August 13 – Friday, August 17, 2012
Where: Austin, TX
The Comfort Crew for Military Kids is excited to be hosting a camp for local military youth. The camp will consist of sessions  designed to support the physical and emotional resiliency of military children, and focus on creating a system of peer-to-peer support with their community. More details to come shortly. If you’re interested in volunteering or nominating a military child to attend, please contact Angela McDonald at (512) 337-2739.

Past Events

Texas Military Forces Open House & American Heroes Air Show
When: Saturday, April 21, 2012 7am-2pm
Where: Camp Mabry, Austin, TX
This open house event will host several nonprofit military resources, including The Comfort Crew. We’ll be on site giving away dog tags for newsletter sign up, and the first 50 people to sign up will also receive a free With You All the Way! Dealing with Deployment Kit. Other demonstrations include a Helicopter demo, and a K9 Search and Rescue Demonstration.

Community Service Event with J.K. Livin’
When: Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 4PM-6PM
Where: Lanier High School, Austin TX
The Comfort Crew will team up with J.K. Livin’ and the Boys and Girls Club for a community service event to benefit local military children who have a parent deploying in May. Students who are a part of the J.K. Livin’ Foundation’s program with Boys and Girls Club will assemble 250 donated Deployment Kits, and hear Comfort Crew co-founder Trevor Romain speak about the importance of community and resilience.

Vietnam Veteran Celebration Event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway
When: Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 9AM-5PM
Where: Charlotte Motor Speedway
The USO of North Carolina at Charlotte Motor Speedway, with support from the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters, will honor the service of North Carolina Veterans with an incredible Vietnam Veterans Homecoming Celebration on March 31 for the military members and their friends and families. The Comfort Crew will be in attendance to display resources and answer questions for the expected 50,000 attendees.

2012 Building a Grad Nation Summit, Military-Connected Children: What Schools & Communities Need to Know
When: March 19, 2012 10:15-11:45AM

Building on the success of the first summit in 2011, the 2012 summit will bring together hundreds of participants March 18-21 in Washington, DC to focus on progress being made against the Grad Nation goals. Trevor Romain, co-founder of The Comfort Crew, will participate in “Military-Connected Children: What Schools & Communities Need to Know”: More than two million children nationwide are growing up in military families. The vast majority lives and attends school in civilian communities. Learn about the particular issues that affect military-connected children, and how non-military school systems are successfully responding to those issues.

With You All The Way! Symposium for Military Family Support
With You All The Way Symposium

The Comfort Crew for Military Kids held its first annual With You All the Way! Symposium for Military Family Support in San Antonio, Texas on February 21, 2012. The event was organized and convened as a part of The Comfort Crew’s mission to educate and inform the pulic about the unique challenges faced by military children – specifically deployments, injuries, and reintegration.
