A Note From the Director

Dear Friend,

Welcome! This is the introductory newsletter for Trevor Romain’s Comfort Crew for military kids. The Comfort Crew is an initiative of the Trevor Romain Foundation–a 501(c)(3) public charity–that provides resources to support and comfort children managing the psychosocial effects of today’s military life.

Our objective is to develop programs that provide information and promote discussion through child-centered materials that speak to kids in their own language. The goal of our programs is to let kids know they are not alone because we are with them all the way.

As Executive Director, I have the privilege to be involved in developing programs as well as manufacturing and distribution of our resources to support school-age kids with the unique challenges of military life. Each of our program resources are housed in a Comfort Kit. Whether a child is preparing for a loved one’s deployment, coping with a loved one’s physical or emotional injury, or is grieving the death of a family member, a comprehensive set of resources have been developed to help them cope with these complex issues.

Our current programs include:

Deployment Program

The With You All the Way! Deployment Program addresses the multiple phases of deployment and the challenges associated with preparing for pre-deployment, maintaining a connection during deployment, and the transition to home life during reintegration.  Deployment Program

Injured Heroes Program

The Taking Care of You! Support for Kids of Injured Heroes Program is a set of resources that addresses the challenges children face when a service member returns with physical and/or emotional injuries. The resources help children understand the types of injuries and what is involved in recovery and rehabilitation.  Injured Heroes Program

Grief Support Program

The Grief Support Program supports children grieving the death of a family member. This set of resources includes age appropriate information to help children cope with loss.
Grief Supporf Program

Caregiver Support Program

The Caregiver Support Program helps parents and loved ones understand the unique challenges military children face. The resources include Trevor Romain’s book, The Art of Caring, and a companion journal that focuses on military life.  Caregiver Support Program

There are approximately 2 million military connected children. Many have had a parent deployed three to five times over the past 10 years. They did not choose to serve, however they love and support their family even though it is hardest on them.

Please join the Comfort Crew. Together, we can say to these kids: We’re with you all the way!

Thank you for your support,

With You all The Way USO Spring Tour 2011

Making a Difference

Hosted by Trevor Romain and the USO, the With You All The Way program is a comedy-based educational tour designed to entertain kids while at the same time giving them strategies to help them cope with military life. Based on Trevor Romain’s award-winning DVDs and best-selling book series, the tour will help kids deal with life’s ups and downs, while encouraging them to become socially and emotionally fit.

  • The Spring Tour 2011 will visit 25 bases and reach over 85,000 children, parents and teachers. Trevor will not only speak about dealing with deployment, but will also cover issues kids face on a daily basis; from bullies and cliques, to homework, fear, and exercise.
  • The tour will also address the issues faced by caregivers and parents. Trevor will share tips to support caregivers and to help them understand the challenges children face.
  • Each child receives the Military Family Empowerment Pack, which includes resources for the child as well as their caregiver.

What Kids Are Saying

Quotes From Military Children

Supporting Military Families
Dear Mr. Trevor Romain,

You spoke at my school when I got the With You All the Way movie box and journal.

My dad was gone 3 times and I felt like he did not know his family. I sometimes got so sad it hurt inside and I was real depressed because it feels like he is not my same dad. But I promise your movie helped a lot.

I wrote my ideas down in my journal and my dad read it. And you know what? He cried. And when he cried I knew that he cared and I felt so much better to know that he got his feelings back and I got my dad back.

Thank you for the USO and your helping.
