With You All the Way USO Tour Stop - Camp Pendleton

The With You All the Way USO Tour made multiple stops to Southern California. Even though we met with thousands of children in military families, it was only a fraction of the total number of military kids in the area.  The San Diego region of Southern California is home to major military installations, such as Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar,  and Naval Base Coronado, as well as multiple schools that have military children in attendance.

All of the children in our program will benefit from Trevor’s presence at Camp Pendleton.  I can assure you, each of us will work a little harder and invest a little more of ourselves in the program because of Trevor’s time here.

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar was the former home of the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, made famous in the movie “TOPGUN,” when the air station was nicknamed “Fightertown USA.”

First established during WWI, the base has seen continuous service since 1929, and is the current headquarters of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.

Miramar is home to a major airshow and to the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum.

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton

Camp Pendleton is not only the main Marine base in the West Coast, it is also one of the largest. Covering more than 200 square miles, the base is geographically diverse, including 17 miles of undeveloped oceanfront, with coastal mountains and wetlands inland.

There are 6 elementary schools on base at Camp Pendleton, and one middle school and four high schools that children from the post attend.

Camp Pendleton was established in 1942 to train U.S. Marines to serve in WWII.  Camp Pendleton is still utilized as a training base for Marines deploying to Afghanistan and Iraq.

More than 65,000 civilian and military personnel are at work on base each day, and thousands of families live inside Camp Pendleton’s gates.

The 125,000-acre Marine Corps base has been the filming location for 20 movies, ranging from “Flying Leathernecks” (1951, with John Wayne and Robert Ryan) to “Heartbreak Ridge” (1986, starring Clint Eastwood) and Pearl Harbor (2001).

It was amazing to witness Mr. Romain completely capture and retain the attention of a room full of middle schoolers at 8:05AM! Even the teachers rested their red pens on their stacks of homework.
